Cleaning Baskets
To
clean your basket, use a soft paintbrush to gently brush off the
loose dirt. Steam the basket using a humid shower room or a
simple teakettle. NOTE: When cleaning an antique basket, take
extra care to change the humidity level SLOWLY. Once you have
steamed the basket, once again use the paintbrush to brush it
clean. Allow your basket to dry completely (not in direct
sunlight) and return it to its home. If the basket is very
dirty, you can use the following instructions to clean it, but
first test a small patch by wetting it and allowing it to dry.
If the color changes in any way, do not use this method of
cleaning.
Wet the basket with lukewarm water (hot will break down the
strength). Using a soft brush, brush the surfaces. Rinse the
basket by spraying it with lukewarm (not hot) water. Use paper
towels or rags to stuff the basket so as not to lose the shape.
Allow the basket to dry completely (not in direct sunlight) and
return it to its home.
